The Medical Field and Speech Pathology
The field of Speech Language Pathology is a variegated landscape. Trying to navigate the intricacies of all the jargon associated within the discipline as a whole is daunting even for seasoned clinicians. Verbage that seems arcane and distant (e.g.- dysphagia, dysarthria, anomia, alexia, aphasia, etc.) is the norm in my chosen setting. The point of this site is to explore the many fascinating aspects of medical speech pathology and to shed light on them. It is my hope that illuminating these areas more fully will help strengthen my own knowledge base and provide an educational platform that is easy to use and is accessible to patients, families and students.

I love this blog. Thanks for all of the well-organized information. Would you consider adding a topic on medial SLP interviews for CFs? As I am preparing for interviews, it would be so helpful to have some practice questions/tips/advice on what to expect. Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestions. I was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia at a local hospital on 12/29/15 and never was given any help from the speech dept. of the hospital. I will try some of these. I could not get an appointment with a therapist until February 1, 2016. I feel the hospital speech lab let me down and I am really upset that I will have wasted about a month with no help.
WOW!! I’m in my third semester of SLP graduate school and I feel like I have hit the mega-million jackpot in your site!! So much of this information I’ve heard in lecture, but the way you have everything organized has really helped my thought process and it is so helpful to have the gist of everything in one place rather than searching through my lecture notes. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! You are on my bookmarks and will be the first place I look when I have clinical practicum at the hospital this summer.
